I may be reading between the lines a bit. But it has been reported all over the place that Ubuntu will be requiring Qt/QML/HTML5 for their mobile platforms. As well, they will be developing their own display server, Mir. Since mobile is the tail that wags the dog these days, it probably will eventually lead to a loss of GTK on the desktop as well since Shuttleworth's emphasis has been to harmonize all ubuntu code bases on the various platforms.
