Hi,

I think the VirtualBox shouldn't make a difference. Screen calibration
makes a huge difference, though, and I don't know if VirtualBox can
handle that.

To move rulers more precisely try right-clicking on them, on the top of
the curve that shows you can change them quickly, on the bottom finely.
And you can type numbers into that field, if you know you want a
+.0.025 change.

For a more automatic approach, try the Equalizer and Tonemapping/Global
Tonemapping modules. But in general, darktable is not as good as
Lightroom in "getting it somehow right automatically", while it allows
to fiddle more in detail.
