I started making panoramas freehand from a hill, (far away) landscape only. Then use a tripod on a place in town, with no near objects. Next I build a primitive bracket, which does it's job for a year or two. See bottom of: http://www.fotodrachen.de/nodal.htm (german text). At last I got a professional one ...
