I tend to use an iMac for photoediting, as the screens on my Linux
machines aren’t as good. But I encounter a persistent problem on the
iMac: when using a mouse with a physical scroll wheel, changing a
mask’s feather size with ‘shift + scroll’ does not work correctly:
movement of the scroll wheel only increases the size of the feather,
regardless of the direction in which the scroll wheel is rotated. It
therefore isn't possible to decrease the size of the feather.

I’ve tried several different mice (by various manufacturers), and all
have the same issue. The only devices on which ‘shift + scroll’ works
correctly are (a) the scroll wheel on my Wacom Intuos Pro L tablet;
and (b) the scroll function on an Apple Magic Mouse (which does not
have a physical wheel).

The mouse wheels of various devices do work correctly in other Mac
software, and with other aspects of the darktable GUI — just not with
darktable’s ‘shift + scroll’ . The problem seems specific to ‘shift +
scroll’ for changing feather size.

I'm using darktable 2.4.4 and MacOS 10.13.6 on a 2017 iMac Retina 4K.

The same mouse devices work correctly to resize a mask feather in
darktable 2.4.4 running on Debian Stretch on my Dell Inspiron 1720
laptop.

Not sure how to report this to the Maintainer of darktable for Mac —
advice welcome.
