Luca,
Try the Tone Curve module, with a subtle S-curve.
Alternatively, try the new filmic module. I covered that in ep #025 of my
videos on youtube.
Either of these modules should help (particularly the filmic module).

Don't know about Photoshop, but you could use
the exposure module to adjust the left side
with the black level and the right with the
exposure.
