I have seen this problem before myself and was able to solve it using this
post:

The solution is to edit ~/.config/darktable/darktablerc and remove **all**
lines starting with "plugins/lighttable/collect/"
I did that early 2019, whilst on 2.6.0 and it worked w/o issues. Have not
seen the problem back since.

Hi,
I recently tried using the narrow down function in collect images of light
table (which worked fine). I then tried to clear the rule but after that
all 70,000+ images are now shown. I have also clicked on the "reset
parameters" of collect images but the full list of images remain. The view
stars does reduce the number of images shown but I can't seem to be able to
limit the list of photos in any other way. Even when I import new photos
all photos are show.
Does any one know how to get the collect images working again? I have tried
to build version 3 but am having compilation issues.

PS I'm using Ubuntu 19.10 with apt installed Darktable, the Darktable snaps
seem to use a different database which I don't want to do with 70,000 image.
