This, in my opinion, is a general problem. The overall appearance of darktable, without a doubt, is very elegant but there are places where various lines are so indistinct that the operations become frustratingly difficult. Mask outlines when used with retouch, keystone lines and control points in cropping ... these among other areas turn simple operations into time consuming nightmares.

It may also be more of a problem in systems like mine that are displayed on 4k monitors. I must admit that when I used a lower resolution monitor I was not as conscious of the problem. If there is a simple fix through editing the darktablerc, I would be happy to hear it.

Hi, Pascal. Sorry, I was not remembering correctly re. the yellow. But for me, there is not enough contrast between the light and medium grey on a selected thumbnail in current lighttable. So I was trying to create more by changing the outline color but without success.

The yellow has never been used for selection but to outline grouped
pictures. So I'm not sure what you're talking about. Can you clarify?
