Hello,

It's been a few month I have switched to darktable and I must say I am very
satisfied. I still have a few minor problems, though, so I'm sending this mail
to ask for some help.
First, when I switched to darktable, I imported ca 45000 pictures (RAW and/or
JPG) that had exif metadata (e.g. picture description, tags...). For some
reason, when darktable imported the metadata into its database, the accented
characters were not imported properly (looks like an encoding problem -- it may
be my computer's fault, and not darktable). I managed to correct this by
directly editing the library.db file. However, it looks like some image
sidecars were not created at the same time the files were added to the
database. Is that normal ? Is there a way to force darktable to generate all
missing sidecars ?

Second, I've read on the forum that tags in the tagging panel on the right are
supposed to be ordered by popularity. It is clearly not the case on my
computer. As i have edited the library.db I might have done something wrong but
I do not think so as I have only edited the name column of the tags table in
library.db. On my computer, it seems that tags are ordered by their position in
the tags table of library.db (as shown in sqlitebrowser). Is there a way to
'recount' the tags ? or could anyone tell me were this information is in the
library.db database so that I can edit them manually?

Finally, I use hierarchical tags. When i add a tag to an image, I add something
like "tag level 1| tag level 2" which appear correctly as a hierarchy in the
left panel tag browser. However, if i select tag level 1 in this panel, no
image shows up. It works correctly if a select 'tag level 2'. Is that normal ?

I am using darktable 1.1.2 debian sid package on debian sid.

Thanks for your help, and thanks again for this great piece of software.

Xavier.
