I fear I don't understand at all. What parameter do you modify here? The "shadows" slider? On my side it behaves as expected. Move it right and shadows will get lighter, move it left and shadows will get darker. Maybe you are assuming that the default values make this module behave neutral. That's not the case as in many other modules! The default parameters are meant to give a "good result" (tm) in a typical use case. You would need to set the "shadows" and the "highlights" sliders both to zero to make the module a noop.
