I am seeing a lot of back and forth on the UI discussion coming from two very
different places. One extreme says the UI should be intuitive for anyone who
comes at the program, they should be able to use it without having to read a
manual. The other says simplifying the UI like that would make it unusable for
advanced users who want maximum control for an individual workflow.

I notice that many of the developers are in the latter category. Which to me
points to the fact thaty they are interested in making a product for advanced
users. This does not mean that the "we should be able to use and understand
without reading the manual" crowd is wrong, just that they want a different
piece of software. Sketchup, for example, is a fantastic drafting program for
novice users. I have seen kids pick it up quickly. There may even be one or two
architects who use it. But the vast majority of architects will use AutoCAD,
Vectorworks, or Revit whose UI is so complex you need to not only read the
manual, but undergo training, and years of practice to get decent results.

What I keep hearing from the developers is that they are interested in making a
product in the latter class of professional grade software. The awesome thing
is that this is an open source project. So if someone wanted to make their own
version with exactly the UI they want all they need to do is fork the code and
start writing.
