I'm very new to Darktable (coming from UFRaw) so I guess I should be
complaining about the history stack and the modules' order as well but I am
not. I find the current implementation quite OK, the way the history stack is
implemented is IMHO pretty logical. It's a history, not a reference to modules.
Mess with history and you're doomed ;)
But yes, maybe two functions could be considered to satisfy the complaints that
recently came up here:
- When a module is selected through the stack, parameter changes in that module
don't delete the newer stack entries but instead only modify that history stack
entry. Ie a user has to explicitly compress the stack if he wants later changes
gone
- For the sorting of modules discussed elsewhere, how about a text-box above
the modules serving as a filter with search-as-you-type. One could then start
typing the first characters of a module and get to it real quickly. I guess
people who edit many photos and want a fast workflow remember the names of the
modules they want to get to ;)
But again, tnx to the developers for this great piece of code! I am truly
impressed with what you've created there! And having been an open source
developer myself before, I also have high respect to the way you take the
community feedback here. I know very well it's not easy at times...

hmm, I generally agree that history needs some more thoughts, but I think most
of your problems can be easily solved with what we currently have
But this it, we have several issue :
- after a reverted back (without warning) , we can't redo
that one is a real usability problem
- we can't disable a specific module from history stack (like only the 4 :
local contrast for exemple)
use the "active module" panel and deactivate it
- if we whould like to change a parameter on a module already used, it's more
intuitive to open the module from the history stack than finding the module on
the right
exemple, after the color zone, i would like the change the strange of local
contrast,i whould like to just click on the local constrast from history stack
to select this module
again "active module" is the way to go for that.
active module is here to provide the tools you expect to find in history.
history is an undo stack, not a shortcut for editing images. Active modules
is...
