Speaking as a programmer, I entirely agree with you about feature creep. OTOH, speaking as a user, switching between multiple programs to manage the output of a single device is annoying. In the end, the question is just how much the file management features of DT are considered to be "core"; if they are core, then adding lightweight management of non-core filetypes is reasonable.
