I think I may see what to do. The file you referred me to, as displayed
at the website, shows the entries in the correct form.  Presumably,  I
should just copy the relevant entry from there and paste it into the old
file.

Out of curiosity,  how would I use the file I downloaded to display the
results in plain text as they are shown on the website?  In other words,
how would I produce a new version of /usr/share/lensfun/slr-nikon.xml in
the form that the old file was in?
