I wanted to use the look as a starting point, not to have the end result
be the same.

I don't mind doing things manually if I know how to do them, that is
pretty much the issue, I have just about zero experience with image
processing and it's not like I can go out and buy a book on DarkTable (not
yet anyway ;))
