I will make a copy of the original and apply your xmp against it.  Won't
that present the least difficulty?

I have no idea which printer will be used as the photos are presented for
viewing and dl from a web gallery on my server (under the desk).

Tks, I will follow your instructions and comment later.  Very busy atm
with Soccer Sectionals, our high school tournaments.  Our high school team
is ranked second in the US and my grandson is the goalie as a sophmore. 
We have won the first level and are advancing next week to the second
level, Regionals.

Unfortunately, the examples I provided are from my D7100 which does have
noise profiling.  Approximately 1/3 of the photos I work are from a D3
which does not have noise profiling so I made range settings based on my
best looking output tests.  They do fairly well as the D3 is still better
at low light resolution.

Output I get from darktable for the D7100 are amazing.  I have some that I
am rather proud of at > 120000 iso.  Flickering of the lighting seems to
be a greater problem than the lack of light.
