I asked something similar a few weeks ago. I have tried different settings for my GT 640 in darktablerc without luck. But you should have a look at the dt manual, which has a very good description on this opencl settings. Nevertheless nividia cards seem to have a poor opencl performance. -> https://compubench.com/ According to this benchmarks AMD is much faster on opencl.
