Some quick estimates from that: 1% of all Debian installations that deliver statistics via popcon have darktable installed. In general, popcon is installed mostly by a certain type of system (enthusiasts, using testing/unstable more than average), but that is probably also a bigger part of the people using darktable on Debian. I didn't find a current estimate for how many people use Debian. In 2010, somebody said there are 1,5 million unique IPs accessing the security updates. I guess there is a certain number of systems that doesn't use security updates, or that gets them via local distribution. So let's say there are 2 million Debian installations today. Let's say half of the installed systems are comparable to those that installed popcon, that's 1 million. 1% of that is 10.000. Number of actual users is probably lower, because people like me tend to install stuff and never use it. So let's say 5.000 users on Debian? 20-30.000 on all Linux distributions? As a rough guess?
