I must admit, I may have similar troubles with my 6D. I've actually
switched to shooting raw+jpg now.

It might be more than just the base curve, though. I think my "problem"
is that the internal processing of the 6D, especially the "automatic
lighting optimization", is just too good. For scenes with a lot of
dynamic range I have to tinker with quite a few modules (shadows and
highlights, exposure, fill light, zone system, tone curve) just to get
mostly equivalent results. Especially darker areas are problematic. I'm
told canon sensors have trouble here, and apparently canon uses heavy
algorithmic magic to counter that.

I can upload some examples if anyone's interested. (And of course, I'm
very interested in suggestions for improved import defaults for a 6D)
