Pascal: Indeed the new Nikon D800 base curve does a much better job in the
dark tones. This is evident  in low key portraits. Many, many thanks for
fine-tuning that base curve. On a side note, I noticed that having a good
base curve (tailored for your camera model) is quite helpful. I produced a
base curve for my Fuji X100S using 14 different images and it works much
better than the generic Fujifilm like base curve. (I sent it to Dan Torop
and asked him share that base curve with the DT developers.) Many thanks

Yes, I have updated my initial base curve by a new one which does far
better job in the dark tones.

You can get the previous one by opening an old picture and create a
preset for the base curve.
