Hi,

I have experimented with an IT8.7 calibration target for building
scene-specific color profiles. The results are good, but the workflow
could be quicker.

My workflow so far:

I am using an IT8.7 target from targets.coloraid.de, model C1.

- Take a picture of the scene with the calibration target. Too much
noise can keep argyll from detecting the target, but the exposure may
be corrected afterwards (even +1,25 stops in my case).
- Crop the target, export as TIFF and generate ICC profile as described
  here:
  https://encrypted.pcode.nl/blog/2010/06/28/darktable-camera-color-profiling/
- Create a preset from the custom whitebalance used for the TIFF export
- apply ICC profile and custom whitebalance to all pictures taken under
  the same lighting conditions

The result works definitely better than a simple whitebalance. Eg
under an "energy-saving" fluorescent bulb, a whitebalance on a
greycard alone can't fully remove the greenish-yellowish cast. But the
result using the ICC profile looks natural, like overcast daylight.

Now I am looking for a way to speed up the process. Any tips?

(Ideally, I would like to use a script, so that I can simply crop the
calibration picture to size and then select an action that creates the
ICC profile, copies it to my .config/darktable, creates the
whitebalance, and creates a style that enables both the ICC profile and
the whitebalance. Then I could apply this style to all images that
fit. But that's just an idea...)

Cheers
  Michael
