Sorry for any messed-up formatting, but I can't figure out how to reply 
only to a single message if I'm subscribed to the list digest, so I did 
some cut-n-pasting...

Anyway, on the download page 
(http://www.darktable.org/2014/04/released-darktable-1-4-2/)  there is a 
link to an Apple disk image:

I've never used a Mac, but Wikipedia has a nice description 
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Disk_Image) of them.  I gather that 
you would download and save the file that the link above points to, then 
use the Mac finder to open it.  When you do that, your Mac will mount it 
as if it were an optical disc.  You should then be able to inspect the 
contents, where I believe you will find an installation program that 
should take care of the rest of it.
