Here's what your sample image looks like for me, in darktable 1.6.6, darktable 
git master and geeqie:

Overall pretty much what I'd expect: the JPG preview embedded in the file has 
slightly more 
saturated and contrasty colours than the RAW.  This is because the RAW hasn't 
been processed yet. 
For any image pretty much the minimum I'd do would be:

* In the exposure module, adjust the black point and exposure to maximise 
dynamic range (based on 
the histogram) and make the colours richer
* Ensure the white balance is correct
* Crop/rotate
* Sharpen, perhaps with the equalizer or any other sharpening/local contrast 
module to taste
* Maybe tweak the tone curve to give a more pleasing gamma (i.e. tweak the 
relationship of the 
midtones to the shadows and highlights).

Then I'd start thinking about the more artistic modules.

Do you see anything different to what I see?  Are you using colour management?  
If so, what 
calibration device?
