I used to have this (and some other) problems on FreeBSD. On Linux DT works
fine. Maybe it is MacOS/FreeBSD specific?

I also find that scrolling through the lighttable is very slow because
tumbnails are constantly regenerating (4 pics per row).
I tried assigning more size to the mipmap cache to 1 or 2Gb but the problem
remains. Maybe I need to assign even more size...
Question: from time to time I purge non existing images; does the purge remove
also the thumbnail from de cache?

I suffer from the same problem, running 1.6.7 on Mac OS 10.10.4. However, my
issue seems to be compounded - when in the “5 across” grid view, 4 thumbnails,
out of maybe 20, constantly regenerate. I seem to have addressed the issue when
I changed over to a “6 across” view. Nevertheless, after operating for 5 or so
minutes, darktable hangs. I must do a Force Quit of the program before the
Spinning Beachball of Death deflates.

I run Darktable 1.6.7 on Fedora 22. I had the same problem with version 1.6.6
on Ubuntu 14.04 and 15.04. I uninstalled Darktable, removed the
~/.config/darktable and ~/.cache/darktable directories and then installed
Darktable again. That did not solve the problem.
