Tight coupling isn't really the word I'd use. The issue is simple versioning. And in this case, despite Mark's concerns, it seems the quickest way to a convenient, working solution is to update DM to a >= dependency on extlib. That way, since Merb, Mack, etc load first, DM will just use the version they specify. The real issue is that we're all using == version dependencies, so when one upgrade, so must we all. Which is silly really. No need to keep releasing updates of libraries if there weren't actually any changes.
