Dear All:

I feel that, over the last several months, development of DataMapper
has stagnated. I was excited to see a new, awesome, orm come onto the
Ruby scene, and have been an active developer on it for over a year
now. However, I think that we've been wandering around for the last
few months, with no direction, no goals, and a deteriorating codebase.
Dan Kubb (dkubb) and I (Rando) kicked off a fork, in attempt to
rewrite all the specs, and we have received awesome contributions from
several of you. Work is progressing well, but slowly.

Unfortunately, the founder of DataMapper, Sam Smoot, has been
otherwise occupied with "Real Life", and unable to provide much
leadership or direction. I do not fault him, or anyone, for the
current state of things. We all have priorities, and sometimes the
ones that pay take precedence over the ones that are mere hobbies. For
DataMapper to thrive, I feel we need someone to take over as official
maintainer who has the time necessary to devote towards this project.

As such, I submit for consideration of this group that Dan Kubb take
over official "head maintainer" duties. Dan is active in the list and
IRC channels, and has performed the majority of the work in the spec
rewrite in his dm-core fork. He also released the last gem release of
DataMapper. He's also shown an interest in doing so, and I think he's
an ideal candidate for what we need to continue to move DataMapper
forward to 1.0.
