You're right, I am seeing those same problems with edge dm-core too. To make it clear, I updated the models so that the name properties are the keys, and the problem now becomes more plain: http://gist.github.com/305809 This nested Hash syntax for queries hasn't actually been introduced officially in the docs because there's still a few issues with m:m associations (like this) to work out. In the meantime going from Role - > User should return the correct results.
