I want to help somehow. Some points:

* I agree with everything you said
* I think we could start with some simple wireframes to brainstorm. I have 
Omnigraffle here, I can come up with some drafts
* I think the DM1 site has the worst color schema possible. Dark background 
with white letters is terrible.
