Subject: slow indexing slow searching

Hi,

I have been using aspseek for a search engine for a couple years but it is
getting old and is not being updated any more. So I have been trying to upgrade
to dpsearch since they appears to have a similar original sources and dp has
some very nice features I would like to use.
I have RH9 1gb ram dual 1.2ghz processors, lots of disk.
I have installed the latest version of postgres and dpsearch on the machine.
I have about ~500k files on the same machine to index
With aspseek still on the same machine it does this in a few days.

The problem I am having is dpsearch index is going extremely slow less than 20k
files a day and searchd seems to be just as slow trying to do searchs.

Since aspseek is working so well, I think I must be doing something
fundementally wrong setting up dpsearch. I set it very much like I run aspseek
thinking the same settings would be the way to go.

I tried different setting crc-multi,single,mult and none seemed to speed things
up. I am set to multi currently.

Can anyone tell me how to speed things up ? It seems like I am a x10 slower
than I should be.

the searching seems to have the same problems. What takes a couple seconds in
aspseek can take a minute using searchd.

thx

Matt
