I don't know, could it? There are very real advantages to using something that
is an Internet standard, and using this system that it appears this guy just
concocted for his personal needs, although there may be technical advantages,
has the large disadvantage that it is not interoperable with other systems.

There's a lot of data to be expressed. With RDate, you end up with a smaller
string, but you have to go to more trouble to parse it into something usable.
Seems that there are tradeoffs with any system that we choose.
Not that I'm discounting it. iCal is currently my favorite option, and I'm
partway through implementation, but I'm certainly open to other options.
