The project is Greymatter, a CGI blogging package that a lot of people run
in a web hosting environment where they can upload files and run perl
scripts, but probably wouldn't be allowed to compile anything, or in many
cases know how to compile something even if they could. And, there are a
few people using it on Windows hosts, which would probably pose additional
problems. Maybe there are some stock ways to get around this.

BTW, I just started working on Greymatter, haven't released anything yet,
so I take no credit or blame for the currently extant releases. ;-) At the
moment, all of its date calculations are done by hand without the benefit
of any of the CPAN solutions. :-(

I suppose I could include a pure Perl solution. What is your barrier to
using XS?
