G'day Paul,
I think the problem here is a misunderstanding of the disconnect between
calculation and representation. We've been working on this project for
years now and it's extremely unlikely to significantly change in the
fundamental and deliberate disconnect between calculation and
representation.
DateTime's strength is it's rigid adherence to being Correct. If you say
there's a duration of 2 days, we don't assume you mean 48 hours as there
could be a DST jump in that 2 days. The representation of data is
handled by the ::Format:: classes -- including
DateTime::Format::Duration which is aimed at formatting durations in a
manner that makes sense to the user of the module.
Cheers!

You'd be looking for the ISO normalization in DateTime::Format::Duration.
Perhaps. I actually think I'm looking for Date::Manip. I don't think
DateTime is done cooking yet. It's pretty difficult to use and
doesn't DWIM very well. It will. I'm patient. I was just super
frustrated and wanted to get the words out there. I'm not alone. I
see it was just on the list the other day and it will come up again in
the future.
Cheers.
