I haven't studied the video driver code enough to know for sure, but here's a possibility/guess:
Is the video input port set to use external (camera-generated) clocking/sync (HSYNC/VSYNC come from camera)? If so, what does the camera do when you close the lens? Does it emit 'black' frames (with HSYNC/VSYNC), or does it stop sending frames altogether (you didn't say if you are just using a simple 'lens cap', or if it's an integrated lens cover)? If the camera stops sending sync signals, I can imagine that the DaVinci video input drivers may have a problem with that.
