Thanx for the reply. A little more info: The lost disk space gets more pronounced over time. Doing a 'du -s /usr' seems to recover some of the disk space, but I will need to reboot more frequently to recover the rest. I didn't notice this before since I've been rebooting every day, testing which dirs could be overlaid. I don't know if this is related, but when I reboot, fsck says my root filesystem is clean, but then I get some messages starting when it checks the internal tree that I'm not used to seeing.
