David,
Because of the inherent nature of any UNIX operating systems you cannot have two
copies the same installation coexist. Applying the Fix Pack means you overwriting few
files from the current fileset
and not a new installation. For instance, you were able to install DB2 Connect V7.1 on
the same system because it is a different installation and a different code set. A
separate instance on the same
system will share the same code base. To understand this clearly, change directory to
sqllib directory of the current instance you'll see that all the directories are soft
links pointing to the
original installation of DB2 on that system. Which means that you change the software,
affects all the instances on the system for that version.

Ajith

Subject: DB2EUG: FixPak
Hi List
I'd be grateful for some advice.
I have a DB2 UDB for Solaris server running V6.1 with DB2 Connect V7.1
also installed. I have a requirement to install a new instance onto the
same machine running V6.1 with a particular FixPak applied. The FixPak
must not impact the existing instance.
Do I first need to install a second copy of the V6.1 base code and
create an instance, and then apply the FixPak? Also, will the fact that
DB2 Connect V7.1 is also installed cause me any problems? The Readme
file is not specific enough for these circumstances.
Any advice gratefully received.
