It's true, however.... This is determined at tablespace create time, you can't alter. 1) SMS tablespaces containers require formatted drives. They'll give you a performance of X 2) DMS tablespaces file containers can use formatted drives. They'll gice Y of performance which could be between 5% to 20%(with extensive tuning) better. 3) DMS tablespaces raw containers can use raw devices. They'll give you a performance of Z. This would be about 5%-10% over DMS file. The catch is that you have more work as a DBA to manage DMS tablespaces than SMS. Your choice. So, ypu cannot migrate SMS to DMS or file to raw. You'll have to export the db objects (tables essentially). Drop the existing SMS or DMS file tablespaces. Create the DMS raw and then recreate and repopulate the tables (yyerrchhh!!) HTH, Pierre.
