This is easy, 
Just create a READGRP (a group for READ ONLY) and all the users who are
under this group will have just READ access, 
Of course, you need to GRANT READ for table 1,2,3,n to GROUP READGRP.

Dear User Group,
Can someone help with advice on how best to put a db2 database into
read-only mode. This concept is common on many other types of database but I
cannot find a command to do this for DB2. I am running version 4 (on unix)
so maybe it is too old! 
Basically, I want to exclude users from doing updates on the database during
certain periods.
