The machine is a PIII, I think 1000. It has 5 drives; 3 SCSI, 2 IDE.
Larger drives are IDE actually. Runs under Linux Mandrake 7.2, has 512M of
RAM. UDB 7.2.3 EE is able to insert about 7 million records in a table
that has 3-4 indexes, consists of 3 columns of integers, in about 1-2
hours of wall clock time.
There is little else going on on the machine, looking at the processes,
the first five processes of that machine belong to db2sysc, using between
70MB and 3K of RAM :) Most of the db2sysc's that I see, about 5 of them,
are using between 15MB and 70MB. The other 3 are using negligeable
amounts, like 3-5KB, according to 'top' , the unix process monitor.
What else, CPU wise, I see that most CPU is used up by 'System', about
85%, with only 11% used by the User. The db2sysc processes all appear to
be using between 7 and 13% of CPU.
This all seems strange to me, and too slow; first off I dont know why the
'System' is using up so much CPU on that machine, and why it takes so long
for these LOADs to finish.
I did not do too much UDB tuning on the version 7; namely because of my
db2admin problems I mentioned earlier - I am unable to use the
'performance optimization wizard' of the control center.
Any ideas what I should change from default or do otherwise?
Thanks, -turgut
PS: Here is a recent snaphot:
PPS: the same machine is also running UDB 6.1; under the instance name
"db2".. The UDB 7.2 is running as "db7" ..
