DMS is the only way to split index and data into two tablespaces.
PeopleSoft does that. So SMS will break PeopleSoft. On our AIX system we
use DMS file systems. That was a change for us, as all out DMS is
normally raw devices.
Thanks,
Ed

SMS

Hello all,
We had a PeopleSoft installer in here this week installing the
PeopleSoft
HRMS Portal and after
he finished I noticed that all of the tablespaces were defined as DMS
rather than the SMS that
we normally use. I asked him if SMS could be used and he said that SMS
was
not supported
and would "break" the software if it were to be used. Pretty technical
answer huh! I submitted
a request for a more technical answer to PeopleSoft, but wanted to know
if
anybody out there
would know why DMS would be supported over SMS or vice versa. I
wouldn't
think the way the
space is allocated for a tablespace would have anything to do with the
way
the application ran.
Also, what are some of the ways that are used to track the amount of a
DMS
tablespace that is used?
DB2 UDB 7.2 for Windows
As always, your responses are appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim Traxson
