Folks,

We are getting ready to establish a new DB2 UDB 7.2 environment to
be used as the repository for an IBM's WebSphere application. The DBA group
is requesting that the Administration Instance owner's UNIX ID have direct
logon enabled. This is causing our security group concern. They claim that
to use the Control Center to administer and monitor the application data
stored in DB2 in the other instances, they need the DAS owner's ID to have
direct logon.

My question to you is, is this necessary? Security has no problem
with this ID's password being non-expiring as long as there is no direct
logon, (i.e., if people log on to UNIX first with their ID and then su over
to the DAS owner ID, no problem). Does Control Center need to "log on" to
UNIX from a PC workstation to do its thing?

Any help with be greatly appreciated,

Dave Stritzinger
