Given the really long history of this issue here, I'm reluctant to re-open it, since what you describe seems to be somewhat different. Do you mind opening a new issue? You might want to add a dependency to issue 73858, explaining therein why you consider this issue a blocker. Also, you might want to send a crash report for the crashs you encounter. As usual, I cannot reproduce it so far, and the crash report might give an idea what's going in.
