We (Fred and /me) talked about releasing it about 10 days ago, to hit the 2.3 timeline. Unfortunately, we did not have QA resources on OOo side anymore for a full-blown QA cycle (though smaller cycles before suggested there wouldn't be any problems), so we shifted this. If nothing changed on HSQL side, Fred should be able to release 1.8.0.8 immediately (ideally with Ocke's patch included, of course).
