DB connection problems

Hi,
   I have a number of scripts which pull info from remote database's, this info is in 
turn loaded into a local db for metrics.
The problem I have is while the script runs no problem, if one of the remote db's is 
down it bombs the whole script, is there any way to skip if there is a error ?
