I have no idea honestly. I'm using Thunderbird 2.x as well and it's set
to plain text. The only thing I can think of is that is has something to
do with the mailist, a scanner somewhere, and/or my openpgp sigs...

Mst, and ideas what the crap I'm doing wrong? :-)
