Ok, the sendmail license sure doesn't look like a reformed BSD license to me--it looks like a custom jobby of some sort. That's why I don't know if I can just use what is there for source material (instead of hacking something up out of the blue). The reason I can't just send out a "snippet of m4 and an activation macro" is because what this requires is re-writing the smtp.m4 and local.m4 files to work properly with dbmail. (These files define the known mailers to sendmail, and they provide much of the e-mail address processing at the same time, hardly an optimal situation.) I may be able to get away with just a modification to the local.m4 file--but I still need the contents of the original to some extent (and, in any case, such a modification would break the installation that I'm using--I tried it already). Now, I'm sure that you're thinking by now, "This guy is nuts, he can just use a simple feature include." To this, I defy you to find a way to make a change to the already written-out file (the nascent sendmail.cf) using m4--since this is what would be required. I haven't been able to find one--and since m4 is just a stream processor (like sed) I highly doubt that there is one. So, to this end, what is required is to: 1.:make patches/changes against smtp.m4 2.:make patches/changes against local.m4 3.:find some decent way to distribute them (either we get permission to use/redistribute smtp.m4 and local.m4, or we include patches and a script to place them).
