Hi guys,
First, I do hope you don't mind me coming up with things that are
/not/ code --I sympathize with anyone objecting as this is a developer
list; but, since there is no 'architecture' list I have no other
alternative but to write here. I apologize again.
I added 4 entries to the Wiki under a new section called 'Feature
Requests, Wish List'. The entries are as follows.
* More flexible Auto Replies, Auto Notifications
* Mail Client Settings on DBMail
* Blacklisting Individualized for User
* Individualized Message Filters
----------------
Before anyone comments on those, I'd like to tell you that some of the
link_id's are simply silly. I don't know how to correct them, but if
anyone can, this is what needs to be corrected.
http://dbmail.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=new_page
this should ideally be
http://dbmail.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=client_settings
and
http://dbmail.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=blacklist_table
this should ideally be
http://dbmail.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=user_blacklists
and
http://dbmail.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=filer_table
this should ideally be
http://dbmail.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=user_filters
----------------
Now, why did I write all that?
Other than the obvious fact that the developers need (albeit unpaid
:-) ) work to do, there is the almost tangible fact that DBMail will
be *_big_* in the years to come. I can bet on this and I want to see
it happen.
The reason I think it will be big is because it is building upon the
shoulders of at least 2 giants (no, I am not referring the developers,
as I really don't know how many there are :-) ), IMAP and RDBMS.
A lot of the stuff that has been clumsy to do in IMAP can be easily
handled by a good enough RDBMS --I am biased towards PostgreSQL and
Firebird/Vulcan.
Auto Replies, Auto Notifications, Mail Client Settings,
Blacklisting and Message Filters are --IMHO-- just some of those
things that DBMail can do much more effectively than other
conventional Mail Servers.
I just hope that you guys have glance at those pages and incorporate
some of the ideas into the infrastructure --clients will follow.
