Summary: Forwarded messages arrive with their headers in the
body of the email
Description:
I am using Qmail + Dbmail so the sendmail program is qmail's sendmail. When
a user has a forwarding address set the message arrives at the destination
with all the headers in the body of the message and an extra newline
between each header (which is probably why the recepient client displays
them in the body).

i.e. a forwarded message looks as follows: (even though it arrives ok to
the local mailbox and displayed properly from there)

It's a qmail thing.

Aaron,

Are you sure? Shouldn't we do crlf->lf before feeding the message to the
pipe?

How we accepted CRLF caused enormous drama on the way to 2.0. I don't want
to repeat that with how to generate CRLF. Every other MTA is quite happy
to accept CRLF's as well as LF's. Stripping all CR's before things hit the
pipe would probably not cause harm to the other MTA's, and would be what
Qmail expects.

But then there's the issue of things that aren't sendmail, when the
deliver_to begins with | and !. I am leery of starting any drama here.

I would be much happier if there were a Qmail patch distribution that
already had a patch in place to fix this. We could just declare that it is
required for DBMail+Qmail to work.

If we need to work around this on our side, we could use a config option,
something like

[DBMAIL]
SENDMAIL = /usr/bin/sendmail # This option is there already.
SENDMAIL_NEWLINES = lf / crlf # But would this also apply to !/| pipes?

Ok, there's tossing some wet noodles at the wall. Let's see what sticks.
