So, this means that the "[" char cannot be used in password's?

I ask this, 'cause if it's true, to fix a software I have to manage users
accounts/change password's.

According to RFC3501 "[" character is allowed in atom. Quoted string is
not required here. Works with dovecot.

the current handcrafted lexer really needs to be replaced with something
better maybe written in lex.

There's no way this can be fixed in the current code :-(
