This sequence, although quite logical, fails with a PostgreSQL configuration that specifies Unix-domain sockets and "ident" authentication. (PostgreSQL 9.x Doc. Sec. 19.3.6.2 recommends this combination when a PostgreSQL server and its client share the same host.) ======================================================================
