Have you looked at the kroupware project? kroupware.org I think..
They have an exchange replacement server fully described, based on
postfix
and cyrus. Their "Architecture" paper gives you an idea of the complexity
involved.. It would be a great challenge to replace cyrus and maildirs with
dbmail in the setup..
