I do run 2.1 on one internal production server myself. Very critical stuff, but
no clients.
Mysql does auto-clipping on field width overruns, but postgres fails on such
inserts.
I've changed the code in dbmail-message.c a bit to truncate the fieldwidth to a
hardcoded 255 width for now.
